Terry Gilliam wants to cast Johnny Depp as Satan in CARNIVAL AT THE END OF DAYS

Director Terry Gilliam he is currently developing his next film project Carnival at the end of daysand wants to pitch Johnny Deep in the role of Satan. In the film, “God wipes out humanity and the only character who wants to save it is Satan, and Johnny Depp plays Satan.”

Speaking about the film, the director explained that he is writing the script together with an unnamed 33-year-old screenwriter, and explained: “Because as you get older the world becomes more alien to you.” Speaking about the crazy story the film will tell, Gilliam said:

“This is a simple story of God wiping out humanity for ruining his beautiful garden Earth. There is only one character who is trying to save humanity and it is Satan, because without humanity he lost his job and he is an eternal character and therefore living without work is terrible. He then finds some young people and tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still manages to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.

Yes, it looks like a Terry Gilliam film. It seems that the idea for this film was born from his unproduced Time Bandits Continuation. That sequel involved new Time Bandits as they embarked on a mission to save the world from God’s wrath in the millennium. Gilliam explained: “God had repressed the first 1,000 years, because he was going to destroy the place, it was a disaster, and now here comes [the year] 2000 finally will.

Carnival at the end of days looks like it’s going to be a pretty wild Gilliam movie! It will be interesting to see if he actually ends up casting Depp as Satan. Gilliam had previously worked with Depp on his first attempt at The The man who killed Don Quixote. But that version of the project completely fell apart, and that experience was chronicled in the documentaryLost in La Mancha.

What do you think about the possibility of Depp and Gilliam collaborating on the next film?
