GLADIATOR 2 Director Ridley Scott offers new interesting details on the story involving Lucius

Ridley Scott is preparing to return to work Gladiator 2 now that the strike is over and production of the film will resume next week. Not much is known about the story and any details that have been revealed are rather vague.

The sequel focuses on Lucius, son of Lucilla and grandson of Commodus, son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who killed his father and seized the throne. Commodus met his downfall in the gladiatorial arena against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before dying to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the boy.

Scott has now revealed some interesting new details about the story, particularly for Lucius, played by Paul Mescal in the film. While speaking with Rotten tomatoesthe director provided the following information about what is happening to Lucius Gladiator 2:

“[Lucius] he’s been in the desert for… let’s see, we last saw him when he was 12 years old. It’s about 12, 15 years later, he’s been in the desert having lost contact with his mother. His mother has lost contact with him. She doesn’t know where he is. She thinks he might be dead.

It’s not the direction I thought they would go with Lucius, but I like it, and learning this little bit of information actually makes me a little more excited about the movie. It will be interesting to find out what exactly prompted Lucius to run away into the desert. I’m sure he had something to do with the events of Gladiaor, albeit witnessing the deaths of his uncle and Maximus.

The film is also the protagonist Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen returns as Lucilla and stars in Stranger Things Joseph Quinn as Emperor Caracalla. Fred Hechinger he will also play Emperor Geta.

What do you think of these details from the first story?
