Trailer for the sinister folklore horror film THE WAIT

A trailer was recently shared for a sinister folklore horror film titled The wait. The film comes from the director F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the fall, Rings), and I had the opportunity to watch this film at FilmQuest this year.

The story revolves around a “tragedy that takes place in the dark, magical and forgotten Andalusian countryside, a place marked by ancestral traditions”. This is actually a really great dramatic horror film. It’s a slow burn horror story and the story is strong.

The Wait has been described as a “love letter to the horror/fantasy genre” and considered Gutiérrez’s “most intimate and brutal film”. The horror film “tells the macabre descent into hell of a man who has suffered the tragic loss of his family”.

In the film “Eladio (Vittorio Clavijo), keeper of a hunting estate, receives a bribe from a veteran hunter. Weeks later, his whole life falls apart. What seemed like the chance of a lifetime turns into a macabre descent into hell when he discovers that his misfortune may not be entirely coincidental.

The film has won 14 awards so far, including Best Director at FilmQuest, Best Actor at Screamfest, Audience Award at Fancine Malaga Fantasy Film Festival and Critics Award at San Sebastian Horror Film Festival.

The wait premiered at the Oldenburg Film Festival (Germany) on September 22, and was part of the official selection of Fantastic Fest (Austin), Sitges (Spain), Morbido (Mexico) and Vancouver Intl Film Festival (Canada).

The film will be released in Spain on December 15, and news on distribution in the United States will come soon.
