THE He shouted the franchise has been on a crazy roller coaster ride this week as the franchise lost its two big franchise stars. Melissa Barrara was fired from Spyglass for comments she made on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict and Jenna Ortega also ended up withdrawing due to “scheduling conflicts” with Wednesday Season 2.
As you can imagine, the studio is trying to figure out what to do with the franchise now because whatever story arc there is with these characters will be thrown out the window and the creative team will have to start from scratch.
According to Variety, Ortega was actually “never on the list for the new film.” Ortega and Barrera initially only signed for two He shouted film and fulfilled these obligations. So if they returned, they would have to make new deals.
The report also says that the studio wants Neve Campbell come back as Sydney Prescott and Patrick Dempsey to reprise his role as Mark Kincaid in Scream 3. These actors are on their wish list along with Courteney Cox, but none of these actors have been contacted yet.
Dempsey recently starred in Eli Roth’S Thanksgiving horror film and was also named the sexiest man of 2023. He is a hot commodity in Hollywood right now, so obviously the producers want to bring him back to the franchise.
The screenwriters of the two previous films, James Vanderbilt AND Guy Busickwill get to work on a new draft to present to the producers and director Christopher Landon. Who knows if she’ll stick around at this point?! I also saw jokes on social media that Ghostface wouldn’t be returning Screams 7 either, which was kind of funny.
The studio still hopes to have Scream 7 ready to hit theaters in 2025.
