Surprisingly funny video of Robin Williams refusing to provide a line of dialogue for an 80s commercial

I have a hilarious video here for you to watch today that will make you laugh! This video features footage of Robin Williams filming a commercial in the 80s.

He should only say one line of dialogue, which should have been: “Howard Storm now directs commercials. If he can work with me, he can work with anyone.” But Williams refused to recite the dialogue and instead decided to improvise. The result is comedy gold! The director’s reaction to Robin makes it even funnier!

Damn… I miss Robin Williams.

The video came with the following description:

Howard Storm is a longtime television director who has directed everything from Laverne and Shirley TO Sold out TO Everyone loves Raymond AND Keenan and Kel. He also directed Jim Carrey’s first major film, 1985 Once bittenwhich also preceded In Living Color.

Storm is probably most famous, however, for his extensive involvement Mork and Mindy. He directed 59 episodes of the series, which means that he worked a lot with Robin Williams. Indeed, in a relatively recent interview with the Archive of American Television, Storm explained that the only way to work with Williams—whom he called a “genius”—was to let him do her own thing in rehearsals and pull them completely out of his mind. system before actually starting to spin. Basically, as Storm said, he let Williams riff for as long as she wanted, then started peeling him off until he got to exactly what he needed before turning on the cameras.

This approach is no more evident than what we see in this rare footage of Williams making a video for Storm in the early 1980s to help him further his filmmaking career. Williams had only one short message to convey, the gist of which was: “Howard Storm now directs the commercials. If he can work with me, he can work with anyone.”

It took Williams 13 minutes to get there, 13 minutes of riffs, impressions, nonsense and incredible brilliance. It’s Williams at its absolute best. You can watch the whole thing honestly or pop in at any time – it’s all the same. Incredible and funny and mind-blowing and, in a way, heartbreaking that we no longer have this insanely brilliant man in our lives.

Enjoy the video!
