When Ron Howard He entered to direct Only: a Star Wars story For Lucasfilm, he got a simple but powerful guide from the man who started everything … George Lucas.
Speaking with vulture, Howard shared:
“I spoke with him once in advance, when I was just thinking of doing it. He was not active on the films, but he said: ‘Don’t forget-it’s for the 12-year-old boys.'”
That one advice modeled Howard’s approach to Assolo, rooting him in the type of adventurous spirit and young energy that defines the legacy of Star Wars.
Alone It was released in 2018 and explored the origin of Han Solo and Chewbacca, immersing themselves on how they met and their first great robbery together, set a decade before a new hope. Alden Ehrenreich assumed the iconic role of Han Solo, united by Donald Glover Like Lando Calrissian, with a cast that also included Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandiwe newtonAND Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
I loved this movie and I thought it gave us a great adventure of Star Wars! I was happy with what I did Howard with the movie and I would have liked to see the story continue with a sequel.
Despite the stellar power and the effort behind the scenes, the film received a warm response. He has a score of 69% on Rotten Tomatoes and according to what was reported he lost about $ 76 million at the box office.
However, Howard’s perspective on the film remains clear and rooted in Lucas’ advice. For him, it was not an ego or native. It was a matter of making a Star Wars film that remained faithful to its main audience, the young fans with wide eyes ready for the adventure in a distant galaxy, very distant.
The saga continues subsequently with The Mandalorian and the Goguhitting the halls on 22 May 2026.
