With Rick and Morty Season 7 arrived with the introduction of new voices behind the main characters Rick and Morty, who were previously voiced Justin Roiland. I think they’re doing a good job with the characters, but there have been some harsh fans out there criticizing the voice actors and wanting Roiland to return. I think it’s pretty clear by now that Roiland won’t be invited back.
Ian Cardoni he is now the voice actor for Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden will take on the role of Morty Smith. These actors have now spoken openly about playing these characters and the criticism they face. During an interview with THR, they explained that they’re actually just trying to avoid reading comments online and are just focusing on giving the best possible performance they can give. They are their own worst critics.
Cardoni said: “I try to avoid that. My goal has been to give the best voice possible. I avoid going down rabbit holes online. As a fan, I know that this show touches people all over the world, and the characters mean a lot to me.”The fans. I share a love for the show and care for the character. The desire to be the best Rick is with me every time I record.”
Belden shared the same sentiment, saying, “I’m not allowed to look at comments online. My girlfriend won’t let me. So, I’ve had blinders on throughout this whole process. I totally understand that people are nervous. Change is scary , especially with something so iconic that so many people love. But no one is going to be a harsher critic than yourself. So, I’m striving to be the best Morty I can be. If I start focusing on the little aspects of my voice, I’m to go crazy. I’ll let it happen [showrunner Scott Marder] AND [producer] Steve Levy to tell me if something sounds strange, and then I work on it.”
You have to remember that these guys were hired to voice these characters after the producer did a long search for the right actors to replace Roiland. It really seems like they are dedicated to this and put in the effort and effort to bring these characters to life for us. I’m fine with new voices, but what are your thoughts?
