Dave Filoni has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm

Dave Filonione of the creative forces behind it Star Wars received a huge promotion at Lucasfilm, as he is now the Chief Creative Officer. This means that he will play a much bigger role in that direction Star Wars will lead with both film and television projects. He will have a hand in many things.

Star Wars fans have been wanting to see Filoni take over Lucasfilm, and well… now he has! He’s in a fantastic and exciting position over there and while speaking to Vanity Fair, he talked about his new job, saying:

“In the past, in many projects I would get involved, I would see him after he had already developed a good way. In this new role, he’s open to pretty much everything that’s going on. When we plan the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved early on.”

Filoni started at Lucasfilm with The Clone Wars, and from there moved on to Rebels. He has worked on many of the Star Wars animated projects that then transitioned to live-action with The Mandalorian and his most recent project was Ahsoka, who was her baby. She is also developing a Star Wars feature film that will combine all the events of the New Republic era into one epic story.

Now he will work with all the directors on the projects they are developing and it seems like this is a good thing. Regarding those projects Filoni said:

“I don’t tell people what to do, but I feel like I’m trying to help them tell the best story they want to tell. I need to be of help throughout the galaxy, almost like part of a Jedi Council.

Some of these other projects include the upcoming Rey film developed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangoldthe film about the origin of force, Taika Waititithe project of Shawn Levythe film, Donald Gloverthe Lando movie and many others. Filoni added:

“To really help the filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand. I can also provide perspective on the challenges that telling these stories will present. I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, ‘Well, the Jedi are like this and the Sith are like this…'”

What do you think about Filoni taking on the role of Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm? It seems to me like the kind of role he should have stepped into. I get excited about the future of Star Wars franchising.
