A new report has surfaced regarding a pair of high-profile DC series projects, including Gold Boosters and the Green Lantern series Lanterns.
According to John Rocha on The Hot Mic podcast, co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn he might actually write some episodes for the series Jody Hill (Pacifier) directed. He said: “DC might look Jody Hill to direct the Booster Gold series with James Gunn possibly writing some episodes.”
If Gunn is indeed involved in this project, it sounds like it’s something he’s passionate about and also has to play a major role in the DC cinematic universe he’s building. I also see that his writing and comedic style work well for the character.
When it comes to Gold Boosters, Gunn said, “This is an absolute fan favorite. It’s about a loser from the future, who uses basic future technology to return to the present and pretend to be a superhero. It’s a series like any other series for HBO Max. Booster Gold is impostor syndrome as a superhero.
Until Lanterns go, Rocha shared it Ozarks showrunner Chris Mundy he was hired as the series’ showrunner. This is the second time this report has been published, so there’s a good chance it’s true. It seems like Mundy would be a solid choice. He also worked Criminal minds.
When it comes to that series Gunn and Pietro Safran said: “Lanterns is a huge, HBO-quality television event. It is already in development. And our take on that is very much in line with ‘True Detective.’ It is land based. It has two of our favorite Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, played in a True Detective style, mystery type and plays a really important role in the main story that we’re telling through our film and television. So this is a very important show for us.”
There are rumors circulating that Channing Tatum might be in the running to play Hal Jordan, but that’s hard for me to believe. Who knows, though, we’ll eventually see how things turn out for these shows.
