Noah Hawley explains how his movie STAR TREK fell apart because of stupid Hollywood executives

Here’s further proof that Hollywood continues to be run by a lot of stupid Hollywood executives. Fargo AND Legion Creator Noah Hawley was developing a Star Trek film for Paramount Pictures at one point and ended up being scrapped. Just wait until you hear how the project fell apart. It’s so disappointing that Hollywood still has this crazy mentality. She shared the following details during an interview with THR:

“What I found with Star Trek was that I got on the runway and then there was a management change. In retrospect, it’s not like they killed the movie. It’s that I got all the way with a completely original idea, until someone said, “Well, wait a minute, what are we doing with this precious IP?” Give it to him just to make up a story? That’s not how corporate cinema works.’ So if the call came to make a big franchise movie again, it would have to come with a sense of, ‘We want you to make your version of this.'”

No wonder Paramount Pictures can’t get a new one Star Trek movie from the ground! They have people like this guy running things over there. What a pity. Hawley is a proven great storyteller and I have no doubt that he would have crafted a fantastic and original tale Star Trek history!

It was previously explained that his film’s story would focus on “a virus that wipes out large parts of the known universe.” She also revealed that she was also looking to do a casting Cate Blanchett in the movie.

Hawley previously spoke about the project and shared some details about his vision Star Trek was, and how he was trying to bring back the smart aspect of the franchise. He explains that his story was less about action and more about exploration and creative problem solving:

“What I love about Star Trek is that it’s not a war story. It’s not a might-makes-good story. It’s a story about exploration. It’s a story about creative problem solving. My favorite moment in all of Star Trek Trek is in Khan’s Wrath when Kirk puts on reading glasses to lower Khan’s shields. It’s a brief moment that is so hilarious because he’s using the best tool he has, which is his mind. As much as I like Chris’ movies Pine, they were mostly about running from one end of the ship to the other to put out a fire, to stop something, and then before he could catch his breath he had to do something else. They’re more action movies and the one I wanted to go back to was this idea of humanity justifying existence in the universe by showing its best qualities.”

Hawley also said that the film would tie into the history of the franchise, drawing comparisons to his own Fargo the series is linked to the 1996 film. He explained:

“We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard. It’s a clean start that then allows us to do what we did with Fargo, where for the first three hours you say, “Oh, this has nothing to do with the movie at all,” and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with something they love.

It’s a shame Paramount didn’t realize they had a great idea for Star Trek in front of them and did not move forward. I guess the concept was too clever for them, over their heads. My faith in Hollywood will continue to decline because, for some reason, some people with no creative vision are running things.
