The first trailer for Sony’s upcoming Marvel spin-off film Spider-Man was released today Mrs. Web. Now we have a featurette here to watch that offers insight into the film’s characters and the story it will tell. Includes interviews with the director SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones) and star Dakota Johnson.
I’m not really sure about this movie. I think Madame Web is an interesting character, but she’s also the kind of character that needs really good writing to work. The trailer looked a little shaky, but we’ll see if they can tell a good story.
The synopsis of the film reads: “In a typical genre passage, Mrs. Web tells the origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspenseful thriller takes center stage Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to face revelations about her past, she forms relationships with three young women destined for a powerful future…if they can all survive a deadly present.
Mrs. Web even stars Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Mercede (Transformers: The Last Knight), AND Emma Roberts (American horror story), with Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), AND Adam Scott (Separation).
Madame Web was created by the writer Denny O’Neil and artist Giovanni Romita Jr. in 1980. Madame Web is a blind psychic who has become a major player in the world of Spider-Man thanks to her ties to “The Great Web”, a multiversal construct that ties all of the “Spider” characters together across the multiverse.
The film will be released in theaters on February 14.
