A couple of weeks ago we reported on the director’s joke Joe Russo made at the expense of Martin Scorsese it is his dog. It was innocent fun, and a light touch indeed, but it made the internet go wild in defense of Scorsese, and now the Russo brothers are speaking out about the debacle. In a recent meeting with Kevin Smith, Joe Russo discussed the backlash his video received. When Smith declared that everyone loves Scorsese, Russo agreed, saying:
“Yes, everyone does. It’s one of the reasons, one of the main reasons why we’re sitting here, right, is the influence of his movies. You know, it’s interesting because my daughter runs my social media account like her La daughter runs her social media account and we saw this cute video she made with her dog, and we happen to have an identical dog, they’re both Schnauzers, and I thought, “This is funny, this could be really cute.” video talks to his dog, he’s training him, you know, like he’s training his dog like he’s doing a part for him. His dog’s name is Oscar.”
He continued:
“My daughter said to me, ‘That’s funny, what if our dog’s name was Box Office?’ And I said, “Oh, that’s funny. How cute.” And then we posted it on TikTok. We make a lot of TikTok videos together, it’s like I stay in touch with my daughter. She has all these fun ideas and we try all this shit all the time. And we posted it and then people found out about it about a week after we posted it. I think people confused the moment they found out with his movie, which wasn’t the intention. It was just like a joke great appeal.”
Russo went on to call it a “shit storm” and joked that he has “educated himself on the Internet.” You can watch the video below:
