Disney CEO Bob Iger said quantity over quality is to blame for Marvel’s box office woes

The wonderdebuted last weekend, and as you’ve probably already heard, it had a dismal opening with $47 million, which is the lowest debut in Marvel movie history. Marvel Studios has missed the mark more recently with the films they have released and audiences may be seeing the quality of the projects decline. Whether or not The wonders whether good or bad, and the studio was pushing a big surprise that would change the MCU forever, by the time the movie was released, audiences were already exhausted from what they had offered and a once-trusted brand lost its appeal .

During Disney’s fourth quarter 2023 earnings press conference, CEO Bob Iger recently shared what he believes the problem is and its quality over quantity. He said:

“I have always thought that quantity can actually be a negative factor when it comes to quality. And I think that’s exactly what happened. We lost focus a bit.”

It’s actually funny that he says that now because, in a past interview with CNBC, he explained the opposite, saying that “more volume” was needed.

I read these quotes from one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, and they just prove that anyone with any brains can do what these executives do, and probably even do the job better than them. It’s simply common sense that when you start producing more films than people can handle, the quality will suffer. This is something I’ve been saying for years and what we’re seeing happen now could have been completely avoided if better decisions had been made.

Ultimately, what drove this whole direction was money. They simply wanted to maintain the big profits from Marvel movies, so they ramped up production. That’s what caused what we’re seeing now, and those decisions are biting them in the ass.

Now they will make an effort to get back on track, but only time will tell if it will actually work.
