Netflix has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga series Yu Yu Hakusho. That manga was previously adapted into an anime series in the 1990s. This live-action project actually looks really cool! I love wild and weird action-packed energy!
Yu Yu Hakusho centers on Yusuke, “a delinquent teenager who usually gets involved in street fights. Things take a turn when Yusuke is hit and killed by a car after pushing a child out of his path. Yusuke is later resurrected as the “Detective of the Underworld”. He is tasked with investigating supernatural activity in the land of the living. Along the way, he will receive help from unlikely allies Kazuma, Kurama and Hiei.
The production worked with Scanline VFX to bring “all the characters, both human and yokai (spirits), to life while delivering realistic battle action sequences.”
The series is directed by Sho Tsukikawa and written by Tatsuro Mishima alongside Togashi. He is the protagonist Takumi Kitamura as Yusuke, Shuhei Uesugi as Kazuma KuwabaraJun Shison like Kurama, and Kanata Hongō like Hiei.
The Netflix series will have its world premiere on December 14.
