A major east-west highway in Los Angeles is closed due to a massive bonfire in an adjacent building.
The massive Camp Fire shut down a portion of the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles early Saturday morning. The highway is expected to be open for at least 24 hours, officials said.
Reports of the fire began around 1:46 a.m. at a campground near East 14the and Alameda Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The fire engulfed both sides of 14th Street under 10. The intense heat melted some steel railings from the road, LAFD public information officer David Ortiz said. More than 150 firefighters battled the blaze.
The 10 is closed between Alameda Street and Santa Fely Avenue.
