A JOHN WICK anime is in development according to franchise director Chad Stahleski

John Wick franchising director Chad Stahleski has teased the expansion of the John Wick universe with multiple spin-off projects he’d like to see come to fruition. The director has now revealed that the property will expand with a new anime series project developed with Japanese talent. While guesting on The Discourse podcast, the director said:

“We can’t wait to do it. We’re really excited about it because we’re making… a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime so much. So to create all the interesting stories that anime can do better than we can, and TV show to expand our world. We’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And we’ll still have fun.

“I think for TV, especially, the world-building and the action, those two aspects have remained quite separate. But if you try to combine them and give the fans [both]? Look, I love slow picking too, but after six episodes I’d like something to happen on my TV shows, you know? So trying to bring what we do with feature films to TV would be really exciting.”

I’m excited to see what it will look like John Wick anime and let’s see what story it will tell and how it will expand the world. When we spoke previously John Wick spinoff, Stahelski said they might explore Laurence FishburneBowery King and Halle Berryby Sofia Al-Azwar, and more:

“I love the world of the homeless, I love the world of Bowery King, if there’s a way to tie it together, I don’t know what it is yet. I like worlds we haven’t explored yet, just as I love China. I love Hong Kong. I love the idea of tongs and triads, and the whole history of Kung Fu and all that, there’s a world there to explore. And that’s something that I think we are [trying to do], we’re currently developing the John Wick TV show, I think those worlds will be explored there. I love Rina Sawayama’s character, I like the suggestion, I would love to see the prequel to Halle Berry’s character in the third. I love, love, love Jimmy the cop, I love Charlie, David Patrick Kelly’s character, the cleaner. I love John Leguizamo’s Aurelio in the first one.

“I think there are these little fantasy worlds that haven’t been teased or stimulated enough. Now, to do their own thing, I don’t know, but I would love to bring them back in other storylines, and I think that’s why we’re so interested and so it’s playful to do a TV show, is to bring all these people into the world and into the world.”

THE John Wick the franchise is strong and has a large dedicated audience. Stahleski could really do whatever he wants with the franchise because Lionsgate wants more too! It’s just a matter of properly developing the stories of these projects and making sure they reach the same level of excellence as the films that have been made.
