Peacock has released the first trailer for Mr. Monk’s latest casewhich sees the return of Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk who returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist who is preparing for her wedding. As a fan of the original series, I can’t wait to watch this movie! Sounds like a good time!
In the story, “When Molly’s boyfriend is murdered, Monk dedicates himself to solving the case, once again throwing himself into a mystery with a deeply personal connection to his own life.” Creator Andy Breckmann offered some further insight into the story, saying:
“When people ask me what the original series was about, I always say it was about loss. Monk was dealing with the loss of his beloved wife, Trudy. And that, of course, we resolved in the series finale. But the movie presents Monk with an equally exciting challenge to step up and face. We’ve found a way to raise the stakes for this poor kid once again.”
Breckman also shared a joint statement with the director Randy Zisk and producer David Hobermann:
“It’s been almost fourteen years since the world last saw a new chapter of MONK. The world has changed enormously in those intervening years, and MONK 2023 reflects the changing world.
“We are so happy to have made a film version of MONK, and we are thrilled that all of our stars were so excited to return. But coming back, we wanted to make a film that was worthy of our legacy. THE LAST CASE OF MR MONK is a powerful, emotional, funny, moving story that has something to say about the human condition. And it will be both familiar and surprising.”
Monk isn’t the only character returning to the film as photos confirm we’ll be seeing Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Randy Disher (Jason Gray Stanford) and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard).
Mr. Monk’s latest case will premiere on Peacock on December 8.
