EXCLUSIVE: Oscar nominee Keira Knightley will star in a dystopian sci-fi thriller Conceptionin which the British government took over control of children’s education.
Written and directed by Camille Griffin (silent night), Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are producing for Maven Screen Media and Fortitude will be launched for international sales at the upcoming AFM.
CAA and Range Media Partners are handling domestic sales. Fortitude is also financing the film, a British production made under an equity deal.
The official summary reads: “Conception is a science fiction thriller set in the not too distant future of Britain, where the government has assumed authoritarian authority over education. The film follows Rita (Knightley), a loyal civil servant and supporter of the ruthless system she upholds until unexpected events threaten her own parental status and make her a victim of the same laws she so easily imposes on others.
The film reunites Knightley and Griffin, who previously worked on the film silent night, also produced by Rattray and Styler. Further casting is in progress.

Griffin is repped by CAA and Range Media Partners. Knightley is repped by United Agents, Range Media Partners, Narrative and Jason Sloane.
