“Concrete Utopia”: Korean Oscar entry hits theaters in early December

EXCLUSIVE: concrete utopia, The South Korean entry for this year’s international film Oscar opens in theaters in New York and LA on December 8th and will receive a wide release on December 15th. In the US, 815 Pictures and Seismic Releasing are releasing the feature film Lotte Entertainment.

The movie opened in South Korea on August 9 and earned more than $27 million there, for a total of nearly $29 million, including Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The Um Tae-hwa directed a disaster epic about a violent earthquake in Seoul. Everything in the city collapsed except one building. The Hwang Gung Apartments still stand as they did before that day. When outside survivors hear of this, they gather at the Hwang Gung Apartments. However, the building’s original inhabitants are beginning to feel threatened. They band together to survive and choose “Young branch” as their local representative. Under his leadership, the entry of foreigners was strictly prohibited and new resident regulations were issued. This makes Hwang Gung Apartments, unlike the hellish nightmare outside, a safe and peaceful utopia for its residents. But amid the constant threat to their survival, unexpected conflicts begin to arise between them…

The film is based on the webtoon by Kim Soong-Nyung Lucky Outcast Part II, Lucky Neighbor. Pictured are Lee Byung-han, Park Seo-jun, Park Bo-young, Kim Sun-young, Park Ji-hu and Kim Do-yoon.

There will be no studio-wide releases on December 8; just the animated picture of GKID The boy and the heron, as well as several limited art house titles, including the winner of the Venice Searchlight Film Festival poor things, Searchlight’s Sundance van magazine dreams, and NEON’s lackluster release of the Anne Hathaway-Thomasin McKenzie thriller Eileen. Sony’s romantic comedy has its main release on December 15 Everyone but you and Warner Bros.’ Wonka.
