Samuel L. Jackson took over Golf Film franchise in 2000 from original lead actor Richard Roundtree. In the sequel to the 1971 film, Jackson plays the cousin of John Shaft (Roundtree). The two appeared together in both the 2000 film and another Golf continued in 2019.
Following Roundtree’s death on Tuesday at the age of 81, Jackson paid tribute to the veteran actor on Instagram.
“Richard Roundtree, the prototype, the greatest of all time!! SHAFT, as we know, is and always will be his creation!,” Jackson wrote alongside a photo of the two in a scene Golf. “His death not only leaves a deep hole in my heart, but I’m sure it leaves a deep hole in many others as well.” I love you brother, I see you walking down the middle of Main Street in heaven and Isaac conducting your song.”
Jackson then quoted the famous text of the late Isaac Hayes Theme by Shaftwhich won an Oscar.
