James Franco will play a US Navy sailor in the drama HEY JOE

James Franco He appears to be making movies again and will star in an upcoming drama titled Hey, Joe. In the story Franco will play a sailor in the American Navy, stationed in Naples after the Second World War, where he will have a son.

In the film “Franco plays Dean Barry, an American sailor who in 1944, at the age of 23, lands in Naples destroyed by bombing. He falls in love with a young, very poor local woman named Lucia. A couple of years later, Dean is forced to leave Lucia, alone and pregnant, to return to New Jersey. Eventually he returns to Naples to find the woman and her son, Enzo, but the city has changed a lot and Dean must face these challenges which lead to a surprise ending.

The film is written and directed by Claudio Giovannesi (Gomorrah TV series, Piranha), and is currently filming in the southern port city.

Following the now-settled 2019 lawsuit that alleged Franco sexually exploited young women attending his acting class, the actor found himself taking on roles outside of the U.S.

Producer Degli Esposti said the director is filming Hey, Joe with his “usual gritty and naturalistic style”, and added that Franco is “an extraordinary actor who has truly bonded with Giovannesi and with Italy”.

The cast of the film also includes Francesco Di Napoli (Piranha), Giulia Ercolini, Aniello Arena (Reality, Fiore) AND Francesca Montuori (My brilliant friend).
