Co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn he recently took to social media to share a little more information about his vision for the future of the DCU films and how the tone of each of the projects will reflect the style of the directors developing them.
When a fan asked if his first comic book films would “match the style and tone you were looking for in the new DCU?”, Gunn explained, “It will change from project to project and reflect the unique sensibilities of the filmmakers involved.”
While Gunn will have a heavy hand in many upcoming projects, including Superman: Legacy, Waller, Commando of creaturesAND Pacifier In the second season, other directors will be hired to develop most of the other projects. However, due to Gunn’s position, he will have a lot of control when it comes to the shared DC film and TV universe as a whole.
It sounds like Gunn will be running things much like how Kevin Feige runs things at Marvel Studios. While Feige gives the filmmakers freedom with their particular style and tone, he controls aspects of the stories and how they unfold. It’s yet to be seen how Gunn will handle things when these DC projects really start to pick up steam.
One thing we know for sure is that Gunn won’t be forcing his particular cinematic style into every DCU film project. Gunn also shared a behind-the-scenes video from Peacemaker, which highlights an example of a filmmaking technique known as the “Texas Switch.”
