Marco Hamill he was damn fantastic as the Joker Batman: The Animated Series. It’s such an iconic voice, and fans can’t help but compare every Joker that came after with what Hamill brought to the villainous character.
Hamill has reprized the role of the Joker several times over the years, but when he was called upon to voice the character in Batman Arkham games, he was able to unleash the Joker’s fury in a way he had never been able to do Batman: The Animated Series.
On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Batman: Arkham CityMark Hamill started Xwhere he offered some insights into how to play the Joker over the years and how Batman Arkham the series gave him the opportunity to be a “whole new Joker”.
He explained that Rocksteady Studios allowed him to explore the character in a grittier and more violent way than TV allowed him to do. He said:
“12 years and a day ago today. Free from the constraints of the Standards & Practices Dept. of Television (television censorship) and aimed at a more mature audience, the Arkham trilogy was dark, gritty and extremely violent. This was a completely new Joker for me.
Fans loved Hamill’s version of the Joker in those games! He wasn’t the only one from the original series to be involved in the games. He was joined by Kevin Conroy like Batman, as well as Batman: The Animated Series writer Paolo Dini.
There’s a reason those games turned out so damn good.
