It was recently reported that about 20 minutes of the slasher horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was accidentally shown to a class of fourth graders. It’s pretty strange what actually happened, and as you might expect, the parents were very upset.
Writer and director Rhys Frake-Waterfield recently reacted to that news in an interview with Variety, and says it’s “crazy” that this happened. The fact that the teacher let it go on for 20 minutes was crazy because it started with scary things!
When asked what his reaction was to the film being mistakenly shown to children, the director said he hoped the film would not ruin these children’s childhoods:
“It’s crazy, right? I think it’s crazy. Because when you watch the film you can’t mistake it for a children’s film, literally in the first 10 minutes crazy things happen. AND [the characters] it looks scary. So I don’t know how – because they said it lasted 20 to 30 minutes – I don’t know how it went on that long. I don’t know if the teacher put it on and walked out leaving them or if the kids tricked them or something. Let’s hope we haven’t ruined these kids’ childhoods.”
While it’s crazy that this happened, it’s also the kind of unexpected marketing that helps a movie like this. A sequel is currently in the works, and when speaking about that sequel, Frake-Waterfield teased the sheer amount of deaths in the film:
“Compared to the first film, everything has improved enormously. It’s a horror movie. A lot of times people go there for the death scenes and those elements and we really upped the ante. I think last time I counted there were over 30 deaths in the film, which is pretty substantial compared to most films. I think it’s at least more than three times what the first movie had and there’s various massacres and things like that. So there is a lot of blood and a lot of gore.”
So if you can’t wait to watch Winnie The Pooh and Piglet brutally murder more people, the upcoming sequel has you covered.
Frake-Waterfield had already said of the sequel: “Bigger and Badder. The sequel will feature new creature designs, a new cast, and a high body count. However, this time Pooh and his friends will leave the Hundred Acre Wood to fight in the quiet community of Ashdown!”
Producer Scott Jeffrey he added: “For our sequel we have a substantially higher budget, so Rhys is truly capable of creating a shocking, explosive and blood-filled film. I really think people will really appreciate what we’re creating.
The cast for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 also includes Tallulah Evans, Scott Chambers (Doctor Jekill) in the role of Christopher Robin, Ryan Olivia (House of Condiments) as Winnie-the-Pooh and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (The Pope’s exorcist) as young Pooh.
