MGM Studios has released a new trailer for George Clooneythe next sports drama, The boys on the boat. Even though I don’t know much about rowing and have no interest in general, I’m always up for an inspiring sports story about the success of the underdogs! This looks like it’s going to be a great movie!
The film is based on the New York Times bestselling nonfiction novel written by Daniel James Brown. The film is about “the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Berlin Summer Olympics. This inspiring true story follows a group of underdogs in the midst of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and face elite rivals from around the world.
Clooney explained: “The stakes were much higher for them… and that gave them an advantage. The fact that you can pull yourself up from nothing and succeed.”
We don’t see many sports movies like this made nowadays, so I’m happy to see that this is a story that Clooney pushed to make. Movie stars Joel Edgerton AND Callum Turnerwith Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, Peter Guinness, Alec Newmann, Luke Slattery, Thomas Elms, Tom VareyAND Bruce Herbelin-Earle.
Clooney directed the film and MGM will debut it The boys on the boat in theaters December 25, 2023.
