A fourth-grade class at a Florida charter school was accidentally shown the first “20 to 30 minutes” of the R-rated slasher horror film. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
The film is a dark, blood-soaked retelling of Winnie and Piglet who, seeking revenge on Christopher Robin, embark on a murderous rampage involving a group of girls on holiday in a remote cabin in the woods.
CBS News reports that the students selected the film, which is rated NR, and because of that, the “careless teacher” thought it would be okay to show it to the kids. But you’d think the whole “Blood and Honey” aspect of the title would raise some questions.
A Florida mother says some children were “seriously affected” and asked for the movie to be turned off. Michelle Diaz told CBS: “It didn’t stop the movie, even though there were kids saying, ‘Hey, stop the movie, we don’t want to watch it.'” Diaz added: “It’s not up to them to decide what they want to do. It’s up to the professor to look at the content.”
Miami school principal Vera Hirsh released a statement to UNILAD about the accidental classroom viewing: “Last week, a video was mistakenly shown by a teacher during indoor lunch. Only the first 20 minutes of the film were played. During those first 20 minutes a scary scene was shown. At that point the teacher turned off the video. Parents were reassured that the school followed all school district policies and procedures in response to the incident and will continue to support the safety and well-being of students on a daily basis.”
The school released the following statement: “The Academy for Innovative Education has become aware that fourth graders were shown a segment of a horror film that was not age-appropriate on Monday, October 2, 2023. The Our administration promptly addressed the issue directly with the teacher and took appropriate measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students.”
The film was directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfieldwho is currently filming a sequel.
