Netflix Games launched in 2021, and since its launch, it has struggled to make subscribers notice that it’s there to benefit. Most of the games they have released are based on some of their streaming shows like Stranger things, Sonic PrimeAND The Queen’s Gambitbut Netflix is looking to expand.
In a recent Wall Street Journal report, we learn that the streaming service is looking to beef up its offerings by partnering with third-party game publishers, including Take-Two Interactive. The report then states that Netflix is trying to get a Grand Theft Auto game and make it available through the service.
We don’t know if they’re trying to add to GTA existing game or if they are looking to develop a new exclusive game for Netflix.
As of now, video games available through Netflix work exclusively through the mobile app. Users can download various games to their mobile devices, just as they would a game through the App Store or Google Play. The big difference is that Netflix mobile games don’t have in-app purchases.
It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it. One thing is for sure, though, that Netflix needs to do more to get people to go to the games section. Personally, I don’t know anyone who has visited it to download some games.
