Matthew Vaughn steps away from X-MEN 3 movie after fake script was written to fool Halle Berry

Did you know that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn he was actually destined to direct X-Men: The Last Stand first fallen into disgrace Brett Ratner came on board the project? Yes, that’s true and the movie would have been much better if Vaughn had actually ended up directing it! However, she ended up abandoning the project after discovering that a fake script had been sent to Halle Berry by an executive to entice her to join the project.

During a panel at New York Comic Con, Vaugn shared the story behind this saying:

“One of the main reasons I left of X3 and I immediately realized that it was much more substantial. I said to myself: “What the hell is this? This draft?” Oh, don’t worry. Like no, no, I’m the director. I worry about this draft. Tell me what it’s about. He didn’t want to tell me, so I took it from him. It was like it was a crazy moment, but I grabbed it. You open the first page and it said Africa, Storm. Children dying have no water, she creates a storm and saves all these children. Okay, that’s a really interesting idea.”

This is where the story takes a frustrating Hollywood turn of events. The executive went on to point out to Vaiughn that the opening scene had only been included in the script to get Berry to agree to appear in the film and that the plan had been aborted after Berry signed his contract. He explained:

“They said it was ‘Halle Berry’s script,’ because she hasn’t signed up yet. But once she gets what she wants and signs up, we’ll throw it in the bin. And I thought, ‘Wow, you’ll do something like that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm? I’m leaving. So I’m leaving.’

Damnation! It’s crazy! But I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise since a lot of these Hollywood executives are idiots. These kids get these cool jobs to do cool things and make cool movies, and they end up doing stupid stuff like this. You have to love the entertainment business.

Sure, Vaughn didn’t end up directing X-Men: The Last Stand, but he went on to direct X-Men: First Class, which was a far superior film.
