Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says: “Even After 32 Films, It Feels Like We’ve Only Just Scratched the Surface”

Marvel Studios has done some pretty incredible things since they launched Iron Man in 2008. They did some things no one thought were possible and those early stages took fans on a wild ride.

Some of the films and shows developed in recent years do not have the narrative and cinematic quality of those earlier films. But, in a recent interview with Variety, the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige he said, “Even after 32 films, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface.”

He also shared his excitement at bringing these iconic Marvel characters to life saying, “I feel so lucky to be able to do this job. At every costume fitting, when we see the actors transform for the first time, there is always this moment of amazement. It’s truly incredible to take these characters and bring them to life on screen.”

Feige then talked about being in the theater for public screenings of Marvel films, specifically mentioning his presence for audience reactions Avengers: Endgame. He said:

“We have a tradition at Marvel Studios that started with the first ‘Iron Man.’ For each new release, the cast, producers, director and I will come to opening night to screen and watch the film with the fans. Feeling the excitement in the theater, hearing the applause or gasps from the audience, is always a reminder of what these films and characters mean to the fans. Being there at the opening night of Avengers: Endgame, listening to the crowd, is something I will never forget. Also, the feedback we received after the release of Black Panther. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would have the kind of impact it has.

Even if Marvel movies aren’t making as much money as they used to and fans are feeling superhero fatigue, I hope that as they continue to develop these projects and tell these stories, they will actually start to learn from their recent mistakes and make better movies and TV shows. Feige definitely feels like there’s a lot of life in the MCU and says:

“The great thing about Marvel is really how many wonderful, interesting characters we have in comics – they’ve been there for 85 years. Even after 32 films, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface.”

The next MCU movie coming to the big screen is: Nia Da Costa-helmet Captain Marvel Continuation, The wonders. What do you think of Feige’s comments here, what do you think about the future of Marvel Studios?
