Jo Galer Joins Dunedin Council Meeting From Bathroom

New Zealand politician Jo Galer joined an online Dunedin City Council meeting from a bathroom and displayed her underwear to colleagues on video, Nine News reported. The incident took place on Monday, August 3, in Dunedin, located in the Otago region.

Mayor Sophie Barker called the meeting to discuss local government reform. Barker warned council members beforehand that two members would participate in the meeting through a video link. When Galer connected, members saw a shower door and drying underwear behind her in the room.

Camera placement and council reactions

Some council members began laughing at the scene. Barker told Galer that she might want to adjust her camera because everyone could see her underwear. Galer replied that it was wonderful they could see both her and her underwear, which meant everything was fine. She then shared her thoughts on the local government reform.

At one point during the meeting, another person appeared in the shower behind Galer. That individual reached a hand toward the shower door but quickly pulled it back. After recording of the session reached the internet, several media outlets tried to obtain a comment from Galer, but she refused to discuss the event.

Similar virtual meeting disruptions have occurred elsewhere. In Colombia, several inappropriate videos, including one featuring a nude woman, were accidentally broadcast during a court hearing involving former President Alvaro Uribe.
