Cartoonist and Dead Pool Creator Rob Liefeld recently revealed that it is moving forward with plans for a Bloodshot movie. He also released a crazy animated proof-of-concept video created to show off what he’s trying to do with the project and get fans excited for what’s coming.
Bloodstrike is a super-powered, top-secret assassin team secretly deployed by the United States government. All members were already dead before becoming members of the team and were brought back to life by the Government Project: Born Again.
The animated short was directed by the acclaimed stunt coordinator Phillip J. Silvera (Deadpool, Deadpool 2and Marvel Reckless), and offers a lot of action, violence and blood. Liefeld spoke about how this all came together, saying:
“When you take a comic from the page to the screen there are always obstacles, script, writers, talent that sticks around and moves on. It ages very quickly. I’ve been waiting to connect with a director with the same zeal for the material, someone who can nurture it to the finish line, be a true partner in the process. I met Phil Silvera in the first Deadpool movie. He had just completed his work on seasons 1 and 2 of Daredevil, the architect of those great hallway battles. He was the stunt coordinator and second unit director on Deadpool and expressed to me his immediate and overwhelming knowledge of all things comics.
“Phil was there at the beginning of my career and expressed his passion for my library of extreme characters, there was one that stood out from all the others, Bloodstrike. He told me we would make a film together and he meant it. During the pandemic we got serious and he said he had some work to complete before he could turn his full attention to Cabbot and the Project Born Again guys. He promised that he would create and direct a draft concept for Bloodstrike, showing me his exact approach.”
“Here’s our first taste of Bloodstrike as we work towards a cinematic experience. A POC showcases the world and its characters for interested parties who want to get on board. Watching this amazing footage only reaffirmed that Phil Silvera has the talent to bring all of this into glorious live action. I promise to take you all on this journey as we build our Bloodstrike film together.
“The casting, the studio, the script, I’ll give you updates as it comes together. I’m so tired of hearing about business, even my own, that I’d rather show you what it will be like. This is just a preview of what awaits us. I am dedicated now more than ever to bringing my Extreme catalog to life with talented partners like Phil, and this is just the beginning.”
The Extreme Universe is a film and television venture that will bring together various characters created and owned by Liefeld. His hope is to build a shared superhero universe that isn’t part of the big corporate studio system.
