Joyce Sherri was hired as the lead writer and director of the follow-up Disney+ series Tianabased on the Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog. Sherri’s most recent television credit was on the Netflix horror miniseries Midnight snack from Mike Flanagan. He has also written and directed short films such as “Beauty”, “Forever”, “Down, Down, Baby” and “The Family Romance”. He also won the 2020 Slamdance screenplay competition for his feature film Him, Sweet sixteenand was selected for the 2021 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive.
The animated musical project was originally announced in 2020 during a Disney investor day. The series was previously described as a sequel to the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frogwhich introduced the character of Tiana. Anika Noni Rose will once again provide the voice of Tiana. The series was initially expected to debut in 2023, but is now said to launch in 2024.
The official description of Tiana states that the show will follow the title character as she “sets off on a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a callback to her past in New Orleans isn’t far behind.”
This looks like it will be a great series for fans of the movie and young fans of Disney animated shows and movies.
