Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt would like to co-produce a remake of THE THIN MAN

Margot Robbieit’s LuckyChap and Brad PittPlan B is in talks to co-produce a remake of the classic 1934 comedy mystery The thin man. This was a project they were trying to secure the film rights to before the WGA strike, and they’re continuing on that path.

The 1934 version of The thin man was directed by W. S. Van Dyke and based on the novel of the same name by Dashiell Hammett. The film is renowned for its witty screenplay, sophisticated characters and charismatic chemistry between its leads, William Powell AND Myrna Loy, who play Nick and Nora Charles. Nick, a former private detective, and Nora, his rich and playful wife, become embroiled in a murder mystery while on vacation in New York City. With the help of their terrier, Asta, the two explore a world of intrigue, suspicion and cocktail parties, mixing humor and suspense. The film spawned five sequels.

Rob Nixon and Margarita Landazuri for Turner Classic Movies, said of the film: “What makes the film so entertaining is not the unraveling of the murder but the film’s central relationship between Nora and Nick Charles, which redefined the onscreen portrayal of marriage. It also helped establish the tone and style of a new Hollywood genre then emerging: the screwball comedy.”

There’s no word on casting, but it’s not that far-fetched to think that Robbie and Pitt could star in the film. This is a project that they’re obviously very excited about developing, so why not be a part of it?

Rob Marshall AND Johnny Depp a remake was previously planned to be developed, but the project never took off and was scrapped in 2012.
