According to a new report from Variety, Jason Momoa AND Gal Gadotalong with the other stars of the Snyderverse, will not return to reprise their current roles James Gunn’sand Pietro Safranof the DCU.
So, don’t expect to see Momoa return as Aquaman after the upcoming sequel or Gadot return to the role of Wonder Woman. I’m not really surprised since Gunn and Safran have developed a series of films that don’t involve these versions of the characters.
Once Henry Cavill was released as Superman and Ben Affleck had been released as Batman, I wondered what the point of continuing to bring back the other characters in the DCEU was. He didn’t make much sense. It’s safe to assume this means Ezra MillerThe Flash is most likely out of the picture too.
So it seems like all that talk about Gadot returning as Wonder Woman, and Gunn telling her she had “nothing to worry about” about that Wonder Woman 3it was all hot air.
Now, just because Momoa and Gadot won’t return as Aquaman and Wonder Woman doesn’t mean they won’t play other characters. It has been pointed out that Momoa is in talks to play Lobo and the report states that she could be a part of Gunn’s role. Superman: Legacy film coming in 2025.
It seems like the only characters that aren’t affected by these changes are the ones Gunn has played with, such as John Cena’s Peacemaker and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller as they have shows in development. I’m sure we’ll see some of the other characters from The suicide squad also the return.
Momoa will return as Aquaman once again in the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, out December 20. You can bet this news won’t help this sequel’s box office.
