Mad Cave Studios has announced that they are developing a new Dick Tracy comic series from Alex Segura, Michele MoreciAND Geraldo Borges. This is actually pretty exciting, at least to me. I’m a big fan of Dick Tracyand I think it’s great that we’re getting new Dick Tracy detective novels!
The series is written by Segura and Moreci and illustrated by Borges. Chantelle Aimée Osman serves as creative consultant. Tribune Content Agency, which owns the rights to Dick Tracy, is overseeing the new comic project.
Mad Cave said in a press release: “For over 90 years, the evolution of Chester Gould’s detective DICK TRACY has gone from comics to a radio show and merchandise, to the big screen in 1990. Now the square-jawed Crimestoppers is heading to Mad Cave for new adventures and a crafty conquest of nostalgia.
Moreci said in a statement: “Alex, Chantelle and I have been following DICK TRACY for many years, so to say this is a passion project is also an understatement. We love this character, we love this world. And we’re approaching it with great care: we don’t want to create a new DICK TRACY; we just want to create a DICK TRACY that feels rich and layered, that fits our times. We can’t wait to share what we have in store with our amazing partners at Mad Cave.”
Segura added: “It’s been a long time coming and we’re all so excited to bring our noir, down-to-earth take on the DICK TRACY myth to life at Mad Cave. Michael and I have loved DICK TRACY, his extraordinary rogues gallery and unforgettable supporting cast since we first became aware of the character as children. It’s been a winding road to not only get the rights to publish new stories starring the iconic detective, and I’m so grateful that my journey with Chantelle and Michael has led us to Mad Cave. The things Geraldo is cooking up perfectly evoke the down-to-earth, cinematic feel we’re bringing to this origin story.
Some of the things I love most about the Dick Tracy franchise are the pulpy noir detective stories and the colorful and strange villain characters that Dick Tracy was up against. Those original comics were freaking crazy!
Dick Tracy #1 will go on sale in March 2024 from Mad Cave Studios.
