In case you didn’t know, until recently Netflix still sent physical DVDs and Blu-rays via its mail service. I wonder if anyone was actually still subscribed to that!? I remember those days when I received a record in the mail! At the time, it was a great service and is what ultimately led to the demise of Blockbuster Video and many other video stores.
Well, Netflix recently announced that it will officially shut down its disc shipping service, and today, September 29, 2023, is its last day of business. So, today we toast to the days when we received records in the mail in a red envelope.
The social media post that made the announcement came with the note: “Netflix will ship its final DVD on September 29, 2023. But the red envelope remains an enduring symbol of our love for entertainment.” It also included an image of a billboard that Netflix purchased and decorated with a large glittery sign that reads, “DVDs will always be in our DNA.”
