Steven Yuen will reportedly play Sentry in Marvel’s THUNDERBOLTS and there are more details

Some new details have been shared regarding this Steven Yeunwith the next Marvel movie Lightning movie. When Yeun’s casting was first announced, her part was described as “not only significant to this film, but she may also play a future role in future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

It’s now reported that Yeun will take on the role of The Sentry in the Marvel film, and he’s a deranged and incredibly powerful character. The rumor comes from Hollywood insider CanWeGetSomeToast, and the character will be part of Val’s Thunderbolts team and will be involved in the first two acts before “something tears him away from them.”

What’s likely to tear him away will be The Void, which is the dark entity that bonded with Bob Reynolds when he became the Sentry, and acts as a counterforce and embodiment of his negative aspects. He is more of a force than a person, but he can take any form he chooses.

The Void is so powerful that it is capable of destroying the Earth and the entire universe if it wanted to. Reynolds fights a constant internal battle to keep the Void at bay which manifests itself every time she uses his powers and is his eternal nemesis, born in the same psyche as him.

The Sentinel is a very interesting and complicated character and if Yuen actually plays him, he will be great in the role.

It’s also been reported that the character will wear a comic-accurate costume in the film, which will be fun.

It will be interesting to see how The Sentry is used in Thunderbolts, but I’m more curious as to what his overall story arc will be over the course of his time in the MCU.

Yeun joins the cast of Thunderbolts which includes Sebastiano Stan as Bucky Barnes, Davide Porto in the role of the Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as a US agent, Hannah John-Kamen in the role of Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and of course Florence Pugh in the role of Elena Belova. Then, there is Harrison Fordwho takes on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will become President of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri he also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

We don’t know much about what the Thunderbolts’ story will entail, but we recently learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feigeand shared that Bucky Barnes will lead the team in the film.

The film is directed by Jake Schreier (Paper cities, joke), from a screenplay by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) AND Kurt Busiek. Lightning it is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on December 20, 2024.
