Miramax is currently purchasing the rights to the HALLOWEEN horror film franchise

Blumhouse has concluded its Halloween trilogy with Halloween ends in 2022. The entire trilogy was directed by David Gordon Green, and the last chapter of the story was marketed as the final battle between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. Gordon Green told the story he wanted to tell.

Does this mean the Halloween franchise is dead? Obviously not! While Blumhouse’s time with the horror franchise is over, Miramax is now actively shopping the rights to the franchise in Hollywood.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, “There is a massive bidding war going on right now, with several parties interested and vying for the chance to bring Michael Myers back to life.”

The report also states that “Miramax is open to both film and television projects and is currently accepting offers from both film studios and streamers.” They add: “Everything is on the table right now, and ultimately it’s up to Miramax to field pitches and decide what’s most interesting to them in the wake of Gordon Green’s sequel trilogy.”

So, Michael Myers will most likely return to kill a bunch of people at some point, which I think we all expected. But I can’t say I’m thrilled about it. I enjoyed the recent trilogy that was produced and it gave fans a fitting ending to the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. I’d be satisfied leaving it at that, but this is a huge, long-running horror franchise that Hollywood will continue to imbue until the end of time.

Speaking previously about the future of the franchise, Jamie Lee Curtis he said it would be “stupid” to say he would never do another one Halloween movie again. When asked about the possibility, he explained:

“I was sitting in the exact place I’m sitting now when my phone rang, and it was Jake Gyllenhaal. I picked up the phone and he said, ‘Hey Jame, my friend David Gordon Green,’ who he had just worked with on the movie Stronger – “I’d like to talk to you about a Halloween movie.” This was in the summer of 2017. The last thing I would have thought of making five years ago would have been a Halloween movie.

“And here I am, [laughs], having now completed three with an amazing creative group of people. This was not only satisfying for me on a personal and creative level, but it launched me creatively into a completely different world. Now I have a creative life, thanks to the Halloween movie and the success. Now I have a collaboration with Jason Blum at Blumhouse, I have a production company, I wrote a horror film that I’m going to direct, I’m producing television series, I’m buying books. All of this was the last thing I thought I would do five years ago. So saying never is stupid.”

As for Gordon Green, he is also very aware that the franchise will continue even after that Halloween endssaid:

“You can kill off every character and still find a way to continue their stories. So as long as they’re successful, as Carpenter often says — because he’s been the recipient of the successes and frustrations of those reinventions — the stories will find ways to move forward, ne I’m sure.”

What do you think about the Halloween franchise being revived after Blumhouse’s trilogy?
