Netflix DAREDEVIL Showrunner Steven DeKnight Calls DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Series an ‘Old Disney Scam’

Netflix’s Daredevil had three great seasons before it was canceled along with all of Netflix’s other Marvel shows like Iron fist, Jessica Jones, The Punisher AND Luca Gabbia. Marvel Studios and Disney later announced that they were developing a new series titled Daredevil Daredevil: Born Againthat would bring it back Charlie Cox AND Vincenzo D’Onofrio like Daredevil and Kingpin.

While many fans are excited about this new series, some of the people who worked on the original series on Netflix aren’t too happy about it. A crew member came to X and said:

“I’ve worked on all the Marvel Netflix shows that were all canceled in season 2 or 3. Our contracts only give us full vacation pay (like 36 cents an hour worked or something) for season 3 shows . Four years of work I never got a raise or paid vacation. Like $20,000.”

She went on to tag showrunner Steven DeKnight saying:

“And not only did they cancel Daredevil once the crew got their full raise and vacation/vacation pay… The Disney+ reboot is back under the terms of the first season’s IATSE contract. It’s a [frick]a fraud. I wonder if @stevendeknight knows!”

DeKnight’s responded to these comments by calling Daredevil: Born Again a “Disney scam” and explains:

“He does. It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to revert the contract terms to the first season. It needs to be addressed by all guilds/unions and squashed!”

DeKnight added:

“To be clear, I can’t wait to see Charlie Cox and the amazing @vincentdonofrio take back their iconic rolls. But claiming that this is a complete reboot and that you don’t have to pay the original creatives is nothing short of corporate chicanery.

Yes, they are definitely corporate scams! I’m not a fan of corporate scams and neither are the other people who have consistently been screwed by them. What do you think of what Steven DeKnight has to say about how Disney does business?

D’Onofrio previously spoke about the series and what we can expect and explained that the show will feature some “gigantic payoffs” in both the first and second seasons. D’Onofrio also added that both Cox and Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher, will play “a big part of the show.” He also said that it will be very different from the Netflix show. He explained:

“We just started filming. I think we’re a couple of weeks in and the show is going to be very, very different than Netflix, and it’s so exciting because what we’re doing is really something. I think it’s something that people don’t expects. But, always with these old Marvel Comics stories being revisited and reinvented by us as actors and writers, the main thing is to respond to the fans. To give them what they want but try to be original in some way at the same time, and that’s what we’re doing on the show. It’s definitely an original way of looking at it, and it’s really profound, really emotional.”

He then teased the second season by saying:

“And, with the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic profits—even in the first season, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are really going to get what they want. It’s really cool to do It.”

During a previous interview, Charlie Cox offered some insight into what we can expect from his character, saying:

“I don’t think it’s a different character. I just think maybe it’s a different time in his life. I don’t think my performance will change: they hired the same actor. Are we saying this is completely new… era or variant? Not I’ve read the scripts, so I don’t know. But like, is this part of the multiverse?”

Cox also previously stated that the series will be “a completely new thing” saying:

“I think the sense is that it’s a new beginning, it’s going to be different, it’s going to be totally different. There will be new stories and new ideas. It’s the first season, not the fourth, so it’s a completely new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you’re going to do it again, do it differently.”

Other actors who have been cast in the series include Michele Gandolfini, Margherita LevievaAND Sandrine Holtwho will play Vanessa Fisk, Fisk’s wife. Michele Gaston (Chicago Police, Mayor of Kingstown) is also in the show.

The series was written and produced by Matt Corman AND Chris Ord, and is expected to be released in spring 2024.
