Deadpool 3 It’s a momentous occasion for Marvel Studios. He’s bringing the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU, as well as several beloved characters like Wolverine, Elektra, possibly Sabretooth and Gambit, and many others rumored to appear. It will also be the first R-rated Marvel film, and it will be a lot of fun to bring this wild franchise into the Marvel Universe, but the director Shawn Levy he has another reason why he’s excited about acting in this cinematic world, and that’s attributed to the practical effects he’s using.
In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine (via /Film), Levy spoke about the film’s set photo leaks, saying they’re just a small price to pay for the overall quality of what he’s making:
“I’m sorry that the photos were leaked online. But that’s the price we pay for committing to real locations. I decided very early on in prep that, even though Deadpool is now in the MCU, I didn’t want another Marvel movie.” shot on a green screen stage with digital set extensions.”
Anyone who’s ever shot a movie or TV series on location can appreciate the lack of control that comes with the process, whether it’s photo leaks, uncontrollable weather, or some other issue. But when it came to Ryan Reynolds AND Hugh Jackman blockbuster of the big screen, Levy felt he deserved the best:
“Deadpool and Wolverine are iconic Marvel characters; more specifically, iconic characters from Fox’s Marvel era. We’re not going to pretend, ‘Oh, we snap our fingers and suddenly the Fox legacy doesn’t exist, and it’s shaped so much of what today we know it as the MCU.’ Fox also shaped Ryan’s career, Hugh’s career and my career. So there’s a lot of history there, and there’s a lot of Marvel history at Fox. And that’s definitely a part of our storytelling.”
I know this film will pay homage to what’s been done in the past that fans love, and build on that in new and fun ways. I can’t wait to see what Levy does with these fan-favorite characters! Deadpool 3 will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
