Many Marvel movie fans would love to see it Chris Evans return to the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America again in the MCU at some point. There have been reports and rumors over the years that this is something Marvel Studios intends to make, but it’s something that has yet to happen.
Personally, I’d be fine with not seeing Evans back as Captain America. Even though I loved playing him, his arc ended perfectly. There’s really no reason to drag him out again, especially at this point where Marvel would most likely ruin his return. Marvel doesn’t have the same great track record it once did.
Over the years, Evans has been asked multiple times about the possibility of returning to the MCU and has been hesitant about the idea of revisiting the character of Steve Rogers. But, when asked again in a recent interview with GQ, Evans seemed a little more enthusiastic about the prospect, saying, “Never say never.”
“Yes maybe. I will never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I am also very precious to it. It is something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t even believe that it happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a money grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt unrelated to that original thing. So, no time soon.”
If Steve Rogers showed up again, it seems like the most likely movie that could happen would be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty OR Avengers: Secret Warsbecause in those films the possibility of realizing it is very open.
In the same interview, Evans also revealed that he almost turned down the opportunity to join the MCU after already playing The Human Torch in the 20th Century Fox film. Fantastic Four movie:
“At first I was really nervous about taking on the role. I remember in my twenties I had a real change in the way I felt on set, in the way I felt about promoting films: a little more anxiety, a little more uncertainty. You always end up wondering: is this what I’m supposed to do?… I just wasn’t sure if I was getting closer to myself or if I was getting further away. And something inside me kept telling me that I was drifting away, that there was something about this industry that wasn’t healthy.”
Earlier this year Evans spoke about the right time to return to playing Captain America, saying there are “more Steve Rogers stories to tell.” He said:
“It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply. It means the world to me, and I really do. I think there are more Steve Rogers stories to tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it. I would be became, you know, it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I don’t want to mess it up in any way, and I was part of something that was so special for that special time and it kind of worked out really well. how attached I am to that role and love telling those stories and working with those people. It doesn’t feel quite right right now.”
In recent years it seems that Evans is more open to the idea of returning to play Rogers if the time is right and if there is the right story. Do you think Marvel will end up bringing him back at some point? Do you think they should?
