Tim Burton talks about his SUPERMAN LIVES film project saying it will influence him for the rest of his life

Thanks to The flashDC fans got to see Nicola Gabbiaof the Man of Steel version, from Tim Burtonit’s deleted Superman lives film project, in action. It was a really interesting moment in the movie because we never thought we would ever see that version of Superman on the big screen.

During a recent interview with BFI, Burton spoke about Superman Lives, which he was developing in 1997. But, due to script and budget issues, the project was shelved mid-development. Burton explains looking back on that time and how such an experience will affect him for the rest of his life:

“No, I have no regrets. I will say this: when you work so long on a project and it doesn’t come to fruition, it affects you for the rest of your life. Because you get passionate about things, and everything is an unknown journey, and it wasn’t there yet. But it’s one of those experiences that never leaves you, not even a little.”

Burton was also asked about Nicholas Cage’s cameo in The Flash, and spoke about the disturbing use of artificial intelligence in Hollywood:

“But it’s also another question of artificial intelligence, and that’s why I think I’m done with the study. They can take what you’ve done, Batman or whatever, and culturally misappropriate it, or whatever you want to call it. Even if you are a slave to Disney or Warner Brothers, they can do whatever they want. So in my last years of life, I am in a silent revolt against all of this.

Cage previously spoke about how he felt while watching his Superman scene unfold The flash said:

“Well, I was glad I didn’t blink. For me, it was the feeling of fulfillment. Even the look of that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But like I said, it’s quick.”

He went on to share where you can see what his performance as Clark Kent/Superman would have been like in Superman Lives. All you have to do is watch his 1998 film City of Angels. He said:

“If you really wanted to know what I would do with that character, watch my performance in City of Angels.”

Superman Lives began development in 1996. Kevin Smith he was hired to write the film’s initial script, but also served as a producer Jon Peters he has his own silly ideas about what he wanted in the film.

Peters thought Superman shouldn’t fly in the film and wanted the hero to fight a giant spider, as we saw in The flash. He also wanted to include a scene where the villain, Brainiac, fought a polar bear. Superman lives it would have been a crazy movie!
