As you know, Johnny Depphe went through a very public process to clear his name in honor of his ex-wife Amber heard made numerous accusations against him. Depp ultimately won the trial, but his acting career took a nosedive, movie studios no longer rushed to work with him, and his public profile crashed with many fans.
During a recent interview with The Independent, Depp’s longtime collaborator Tim Burton spoke about the backlash against the actor and compared it to the story of Frankenstein. When asked about Depp, Burton told a story about him when he was a child, he saw society the same way he saw the angry villagers in the story of Frankenstein.
“Here’s the thing. When I was a child, I always had an image of the angry villagers in Frankenstein… I always thought of society that way, as the angry village. You see it more and more. It’s a very, very strange human dynamic, a human trait that I don’t quite like or understand.
Depp and Burton collaborated on eight films over the course of their careers and their closest friends, so it makes sense that Burton would feel protective of Depp. Comparing Depp’s situation to Frankenstein is an interesting interpretation, but it makes sense coming from Burton.
