40 years later James Cameron’S The Terminator has been released, producer Gale Ann Hurd revealed why a crucial scene was cut from the film. It was a scene that would actually explain some of the plot holes in the franchise. The deleted scene included financing friends of the studio and it didn’t quite work.
Hurd explained on X: “Terminator financier John Daly’s Hemdale was signed to Orion Pictures, but hadn’t had a hit yet (things changed with our movie and Platoon). They insisted we use financial friends and non-actors in this scene, which ruined it for us.”
The scene that was cut actually feeds the file Terminator 2 storyline of Cyberdyne Systems developing Skynet showing how the company acquired the CPU chip that would ultimately bring about the end of humanity. The scene lasts only a minute and shows how Cyberdyne Systems got hold of the microchip which is eventually inserted into the terminators.
Hurd added: “I think [Daly] they insisted they be in the film because the financiers had been promised a return on their investment and had not yet received it. Daly never believed the film would be a hit.”
Hurd explained that Cameron was “never satisfied with ‘just ok’, even then!” He wasn’t happy with how the scene turned out and cut it because it just wasn’t up to his standards. You can watch the scene below.
