Elizabeth Olsen she recently talked about playing Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for so long, and it seems like she’s ready to move on and play a variety of other characters.
Olsen filmed Wanda Vision AND Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness one after another, and then stepped into the role of alleged ax murderer Candy Montgomery in Max’s Love and death series, in which she was excellent. When it comes to playing Scarlet Witch though, Olsen explained in an interview with The Times of London:
“I’m trying to understand… Why, specifically in the last four years, my production has been Marvel. I don’t want… it’s not like I don’t want to be associated with just this character. But I really feel like I need to rebuild other parts to balance. I so want to make movies right now. And I hope some of them join in the way I feel they can. But yeah, that’s something I need. I just need more characters in my life. There’s no longevity in a character.”
Olsen explains that his Marvel obligations and the pandemic were impacting the variety of roles he began taking on around 2017. He explains: “The River of the Wind AND Ingrid goes west they were films that I was very proud to have selected and they were so different that they could not be compared. So I want more of it in my life just because I get satisfaction from the variation.
During a previous interview, when Olsen was asked if she missed playing Wanda in the MCU, she said:
“No I do not know. I think it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve played her. And I loved it. And I think the reason why I don’t call Kevin Feige every day with my ideas is because I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to do. I think “WandaVision” was a really amazing opportunity.
“If someone told me I got fired from Marvel movies, I would feel proud of what we’ve accomplished. And I’m really just trying to figure out how to load up on other movies and characters so it becomes less Marvel in all of this.
At this time, there’s no word on when or if Marvel will call Olsen again to return for another project. In the meantime, she can actually start looking for roles that interest her! And, if Marvel comes knocking, she doesn’t have to open the door if she doesn’t want to. Right now she’s in the position where she can pretty much take on the roles that she wants. If you don’t find what you are looking for, you can always create it yourself.
