THE CREATOR director Gareth Edwards explains why he took a break from directing after STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

After the director Gareth Edwards Done Star Wars: Rogue One, has exited the map. Thereafter she did not undertake any film projects for years. Then suddenly The creator appears and we find out that the director has gone out and made a sci-fi epic that looks amazing!

So what happened after Edwards did? Rogue One? Why did you take a long break from making films? You’d think that after an experience like that, you’d be primed and ready to move on to the next thing. Well, it turns out that the Rogue One the experience kind of killed his spirit and he needed to take a break from the Hollywood system.

During an interview with GamesRadar, the director shared what he was going through at the time that forced him to walk away, saying:

“I needed to get off the carousel, you know what I mean? In Hollywood you can get stuck on the hamster wheel, or whatever analogy you want to use. I just wanted to get off and take a break to take some time to think about the next thing.”

He went on to explain that while making these big-budget Hollywood movies, he found that more money didn’t necessarily give him freedom. He said:

“I have to make a very low-budget sci-fi movie with Monsters, and I realized there were serious benefits to not having money. It was kind of a shock to have all the money you could possibly want and still be limited. I had a feeling that if I could somehow take that big bag of money and send it back to me in time when I was making Monsters, the possibilities were endless, and so, in a weird way, I was trying to come up with that kind of scenario. I was as interested in the process of making the film as I was in the idea.”

Edward’s next film, The creator it is said to be “a bridge between his low-budget roots and major studio backing for Edwards, who have previously revealed how they used guerilla film methods to tell this story.” It seems that, with this film, he has found his happy place.

The creator tells a story on an epic scale, set in the distant future after a “catastrophic and apocalyptic war” between humans and artificial intelligence. John David Washington protagonist of the film as a character who is tasked with saving the world, but may have to kill an artificially intelligent robot child to do so.

The film is based on an original story and screenplay written by Edwards Chris Weitzand the synopsis reads: “In the midst of a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-Special Forces agent mourning the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and slay the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end war…and humanity itself.

It is explained: “Joshua and his team of elite operatives travel behind enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to find that the world-ending weapon they’ve been ordered to destroy it’s an artificial intelligence in the form of a baby.”

The film is also the protagonist Gem Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Start), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), Madeleine Yuna Voyles AND Allison Janney (I, Tonya). The creator hits theaters September 29!
