The boys is an incredibly funny, over the top, incredibly violent and raunchy show that did incredibly crazy and out of the ordinary things, and the fans loved it! However, apparently there’s a line that Amazon won’t let the series cross, which is so weird because there doesn’t seem to be any line! It’s like the show can do whatever it wants!
But, when it came to the Aquaman-like character The Deep, there was something crazy the creative team originally wanted to do with the character that Amazon shut down.
In a 2019 interview with Daily Mail Australia, Chace Crawford shared that his character, The Deep, was originally going to have a comically large penis, and the purpose was for viewers to be able to clearly see its imprint through his suit.
He explained that the showrunner of the series, Eric Kripke”, he was like, ‘We don’t get notes from Amazon, but the first one we got was that [the bulge] It can’t happen, we have to eliminate it.”
It’s funny because they had already shot the scenes with the prosthetic bulge, so they had to digitally remove it before the series came out. Crawford and Kripke both thought the whole thing was funny, and Crawford told EW, “I don’t think anyone had more fun than Eric Kripke,” Chase told Entertainment Weekly. “He thought it was the funniest thing in the world.”
Now, there’s a calendar out there made up entirely of images of The Deep before Amazon decided it needed to remove his giant penis. Crawford said, “They showed me one of the months and I was like, ‘Cool.’ But then I turn it around and go, ‘Wait… I’m in every one of these. It’s just me. Well… shit.'[…] I died laughing. He’s obviously in character and is surprisingly cheesy and really funny. We really tried.”
So while Amazon hasn’t allowed this bit of crude humor, there’s a lot more that has gone into the series.
