Just like the Barbie movie and Oppenheimer shared an opening date in July, giving us “Barbenheimer”, we were about to enjoy the “Exorswift” mashup, while The exorcist: believer and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Movie had dual October 13 release dates. But The exorcist they didn’t want to go head to head with the Swifties who will no doubt be flooding theaters to see Taylor, so they caved and pushed the release date up to October 6th.
The funniest part of this change is this The exorcist foregone the Friday the 13th release, a date the filmmakers and studio were likely excited about, and also backed off knowing the two audiences are likely very different. But I guess it’s smart to know you can’t outsell Swift.
Blumhouse producer Jason Blum made a humorous post on social media regarding the switch, saying, “Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/23/23 #TaylorWins,” paying its little tribute to Taylor Swift. Check out the post below and let us know if you’ll be in the theater two weekends in a row!

Here is the synopsis of the film:
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya JewettGood Girls) alone.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), disappear into the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened, sets off a chain of events that will force Victor to face the nadir of evil and, in his terror and despair, to seek out the one living person who has witnessed something similar before: Chris MacNeil.
For the first time since the 1973 film, Ellen Burstyn reprises his iconic role of Chris MacNeil, “an actress who was forever changed by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades earlier.”
The film is also the protagonist Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, e Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Precious Stones of the Righteous) e Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.
The press release adds: “The release of The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, changed culture forever, shattering all box office records and garnering 10 Academy Award® nominations, becoming the first motion picture horror never mentioned.” for best picture”.
David Gordon Green will direct from a script he wrote with Peter Sattler (X-ray of the field). The story comes from Scott Teems (Halloween kills), Danny McBride (Halloween Trilogy) and Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.
