Director Ridley Scott is just months away from the release of his latest epic film on the big screen, Napoleonhero Joaquin Phoenix. The film is described as “a spectacle-packed action epic detailing the rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.” Josephine (Vanessa Kirby), showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic hands-on battle sequences ever filmed.
With such a massive story, the film boasts a running time of 157 minutes, just over two and a half hours, but that’s nothing compared to the director’s version of the film Scott told Empire Magazine about. Scott revealed that he has a “fantastic” cut of Napoleon that is approximately 270 minutes long and gives Vanessa Kirby’s character more screen time.
The magazine reports that Scott hopes Apple Studios will eventually screen the 4.5-hour montage. That’s quite a while! It would probably be nice to stream it so people can watch it in segments. That’s a lot to ask viewers, and it probably wouldn’t be worth releasing. But for those fascinated by historical film, the extra footage would probably be appreciated.
Napoleon will be released in theaters on November 22, 2023.
