Atari announces sequel to PONG! The trailer reveals the secrets behind the arcade legend

So here’s some video game news I never expected to see! Atari has announced a sequel to I pose titled Qomp2. They also released a trailer and it looks really cool.

Atari describes Qomp2 as “a creative sequel to the seminal classic Pong that asks the question: ‘What if the pong ball escaped from the rackets?'”

The short description reads: “Free yourself and embark on the journey of a pong ball as you make your way through industrial mazes and perilous obstacles. The sequel to the surprise indie hit, Qomp, adds a new ability that opens up the way you play. Will you be able to make it to the end?”

Trailer teases: “What if there’s more to the story?” and “Explore the secrets behind an arcade legend.” It is explained that “Qomp2 captures the simplicity of Pong by giving players just two buttons to navigate a series of labyrinthine levels filled with “harder than they look” challenges. By entering the spherical body of the fleeing renegade, players will ping pong their way through the dangerous and minimalistic world of qomp2. With a variety of enemies and bosses to help punctuate the journey, the fugitive will venture through 30 challenging levels in four distinct worlds.

The game is said to tell an enigmatic story of doubt, fear and self-acceptance. Wade Rosen, President and CEO of Atari said in a statement, “More than 50 years have passed and the simple and joyful gameplay of Pong still fascinates gamers and game developers. With qomp2I am happy that we are able to continue the creative and thoughtful storytelling introduced by qomp.”

Coming to PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Atari VCS, and iOS and Android mobile platforms in 2024. Check out the trailer below, and I’ve included more details below. It’s pretty crazy that after all these years we’re getting a following for Pong!
